Recordgeeks.com review of "This Train Won't Stop 7inch" Devil to Pay - This Train Won't Stop / Tie One On Reviewed by Jon Rogers on 03.06.2013 Devil to Pay are an apocalyptic hard rock band from Indianapolis, and this GloryHole-released 7 inch is a testament to their sonic power and songwriting strengths. "This Train Won't Stop" and "Tie One On" have dark vibes, loud guitars, pounding drums, and lots of heavy grooves. The blood-red vinyl is beautiful; sound quality and packaging are also strong. Ratings are based on a scale from 0-10. Overall Sound: 9.00 The recording quality is pretty incredible - everything is loud, crunchy, and upfront. Heavy alternative metal like this can easily get muddy, but Devil to Pay avoid all potential pitfalls. Clear, crisp recordings, solid production, no complaints about sound quality. Pressing Quality: 8.50 Solid pressing, great color for the vinyl but with some minor smudging (which can be hard to avoid for manufacturers). Great record pressing quality with really cool thick paper for the cover insert. High quality 7-inch. No warp or weave present. Vinyl Noise: 9.00 No detectable sonic distortion, pops, crackles, static or other vinyl noise. Overall Artwork: 8.00 Pretty cool art and design with some cryptic Mayan calendar stuff going on to match the musical and lyrical themes. Simple font, clean look. Oh yeah, have I mentioned that the record itself looks beautiful? Overall Extras: 7.50 Comes with a download, great packaging, solid music if you're into heavy rock with melodic vocals. They don't go crazy on the extras with this package, but 45s are meant to be simple and repayable, and this one definitely succeeds. Total Score: 4.20 |
