Justin Hulford Blog review of "Fate is Your Muse" By justinhulford on 12th Mar 2013 Devil To Pay - Fate Is Your Muse Artist: Devil To Pay Album: Fate Is Your Muse Label: Ripple Music Genre: Metal Opener “Prepare To Die” has some deep down Southern rock beneath its metal crust with up front riffs being clung onto by the rhythm section, the vocal just merging. It’s a theme throughout and benefits from some very solid production. There is a sort of dark undertone to this and I would have liked to see a few more moments of pace to go with them, the grind eventually becoming tiring, but the songs are solid. “Already Dead” is one track to stand out but it is in good company with the opener and a couple of others. The pace of “This Train Won’t Stop” just shows that little extra variety I would love to see more. There’s a lot of upbeat Southern style rockers out there at the moment. This is a band that slows it all down a little, cranks up the riffs and it’s refreshing. But I think they could go a little further with the nasty side. I don’t know their previous three albums but there is certainly more than enough here to prompt finding out more. This feels original and is well played throughout. 16/20 |
