Abrasiverock.com review of 'thirty pieces' I think I reviewed this cd once before, but since I can't find it anywhere, here I go again. It's pretty good stoner rock with a solid flow of energy throughout. Imagine something between Fu Manchu, and Kyuss, with a touch of Nebula, and you get the idea. Or maybe it is more of a mix between Electric Wizard and Spiritu? Either way, the guitars are beefy as hell and the vocals are just raspy enough to give it attitude. This is dirty and ugly rock and roll, people. Now while none of the songs will grab you and make you sing along at work several hours after you listened that morning in the shower, this is some good shit. Now none of this stuff is original in the least. Stoner Rock has been done and overdone for so long it is starting to get pretty tired and labels are going under left and right because of that. Anyone can rip off a Sabbath riff, and too many have only done that. DTP however have added something to the mix that you just can't fake. They have the passion to it all that only comes from someone that was born to play this style. This is a band that is doing this because they need to. This is the style that comes natural to the band, and it shows. If you like stoner rock and have been looking for a new band to remind you of how good this style can be done, look no further than Devil To Pay. |
